I think everyone ought to know plumbing. Really! No, not\u00a0just know a little something but competent to do all things\u00a0plumbing. Fathers should teach sons and daughters\u00a0everything there is to know about plumbing. After all,there\u2019s not much to it, lots of books available, the internet\u00a0and don\u2019t forget the code book; we all have access to it and if\u00a0we are going to live in a modern house with running water\u00a0and flush toilets it behooves us to know it exhaustively.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh I have hired a plumber before! I know what plumbers are\u00a0like, they make things that are not, much too complicated.\u00a0Much, much too complicated and regulated! They try to\u00a0keep the average guy from doing plumbing, after all that\u2019s\u00a0how they make their money, how they build their plumbing\u00a0consortium which allows them to rub shoulders with the electricians\u00a0but don\u2019t get me started about electricians!<\/span><\/p>\n

Imagine, guys actually charge for plumbing! How dare they charge\u00a0for it when anyone can be a plumber! Don\u2019t get me started about\u00a0the chef or the car salesman. Imagine! Getting paid for something\u00a0I could and should be able to do myself! What about those\u00a0teachers? Who says they\u2019re so smart? I\u2019m sure I could teach as\u00a0well as they could.<\/span><\/p>\n

The biggest money grab of all; the medical system and all because\u00a0of the rich doctors! I have an education in animal husbandry and\u00a0can pull a calf; and I saw a cesarean section done on the Discovery Channel - I could do that for\u00a0my wife. Everyone should know how to do it, so\u00a0where do the doctors get off thinking they should\u00a0make a living as doctors! Besides, isn\u2019t it basic\u00a0compassion? They should help people! How can\u00a0you justify getting paid for something you should\u00a0do anyway and that anyone could do? That brings\u00a0me to food. I am capable of raising animals and\u00a0growing a garden. I could certainly grow my own\u00a0food so why would I pay a farmer to do it - I am\u00a0sure I pay too much for milk anyway!<\/span><\/p>\n

All these folks and more are ripping us off,\u00a0expecting to be paid for stuff we can do by\u00a0ourselves! I can be a plumber, a teacher, a\u00a0waitress, a helicopter pilot, a recreational therapist, a water treatment specialist, a birth doula, a\u00a0crop specialist, a salesman, a farmer, a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, an artist, a musician, an\u00a0electrician, a medical researcher, a plane builder, a counselor,\u00a0a writer, a printer, a computer manufacturer, a pastor \u2026 I\u00a0can be it all and so can you! We don\u2019t need each other, we\u00a0won\u2019t be manipulated, we won\u2019t be dependent on anyone;\u00a0you will never use me and I will never use you! Simple as\u00a0that!<\/span><\/p>\n

Epilogue<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

In this way we are like the various parts of a human body.\u00a0Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the\u00a0other way around. The body we\u2019re talking about is Christ\u2019s\u00a0body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and\u00a0function as a part of his body. But as a chopped-off finger or\u00a0cut-off toe we wouldn\u2019t amount to much, would we? So\u00a0since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently\u00a0formed and\u00a0marvellously\u00a0functioning parts in Christ\u2019s body,\u00a0let\u2019s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing\u00a0ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren\u2019t. If you preach, just preach God\u2019s\u00a0Message, nothing else; if you help, just help, don\u2019t take over; if you teach, stick to your teaching;\u00a0if you give encouraging guidance, be careful that you don\u2019t get bossy; if you\u2019re put in charge,\u00a0don\u2019t manipulate; if you\u2019re called to give aid to people in distress, keep your eyes open and be\u00a0quick to respond; if you work with the disadvantaged, don\u2019t let yourself get irritated with them or\u00a0depressed by them. Keep a smile on your face. <\/span><\/p>\n

Romans 12:4-8 The Message<\/span><\/p>\n

If you are called to be a plumber then\u2026 and the cheque is in the mail.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
