Conversion Therapy is the discredited practice that attempts to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity by various modalities, including different kinds of prayer. The harm of such practices is well-documented, and the stories of those who have endured such are dreadfully painful.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Conversion Therapy Flagship ministries who had claimed to successfully “pray away the gay” have voluntarily\"\" closed\/morphed their ministry because they recognized its ineffectiveness and the damage to countless individuals over the years. One admitted that typically, one of two things happened to the people they served; either they reverted to their “pre-therapy<\/em>” God-given gender identity \/ sexual orientation or took their own lives.  These ministries left a wake of significant harm.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For this reason, I am thrilled that on <\/span>December 1, 2021, the Parliament of Canada voted UNANIMOUSLY to ban the practice of Conversion Therapy in Canada<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A few hours later, I received a message from a friend from a nearby city who has worked tirelessly advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and well-being. One such effort was to ban Conversion Therapy locally, provincially and nationally. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A couple of years ago, at a local Pride event, we talked about his advocacy and the practice of conversion therapy. In the context of the conversation, I had simply shared that it is not uncommon for some parents of LGBTQ+ teens to take them to another country to a “minister” who works to ‘deliver queer youth from their homosexuality<\/em>.’ I mentioned that this practice needed to be addressed in future petitions and proposed legislation.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Imagine the rush<\/strong> – to be told that one little thought I shared over an impromptu visit at a Pride event would be considered so seriously and eventually worked into the federal legislation that passed unanimously in the House yesterday. As part of this legislation, it is now illegal to transport children\/youth out of the country for Conversion Therapy.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I am pondering the fruit of such a small, seemingly insignificant conversation with a small seed of an idea that would grow<\/strong> into a part of a significant piece of legislation that will protect the health and well-being of young people who identify as LGBTQ+.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It affirms the power of potential in a seed. A seed of an idea that is scattered, thrown to the wind, that landed in good soil, and it grew into something that makes the world a little more loving<\/strong>. It is a reminder that when we offer our couple of loaves and a fish or two that we can partner with God to affect positive change and beauty.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In a world where the problems seem so big, and my faith feels so small, I am encouraged that we all can contribute, in big and small ways, to make the world a better place – to be co-creators of the Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We scatter our seeds of Love to the wind (Spirit).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We water, care and tend to the seeds of Love where we find them.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And trust Divine Love and the tenacious persistence of life as we stretch as a human species to embody and manifest the Christ of the God who is Love. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
