{"id":16747,"date":"2023-07-12T16:46:00","date_gmt":"2023-07-12T16:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/?p=16747"},"modified":"2023-09-11T16:47:03","modified_gmt":"2023-09-11T16:47:03","slug":"out-of-the-mouths-of-babes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/featured\/out-of-the-mouths-of-babes\/","title":{"rendered":"Out of the Mouths of Babes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It was hot, and we were on a beach at Kootenay Lake of British Columbia, enjoying fun and relaxation with family.&nbsp; Somehow the conversation turned to God, and my 17-year-old has some pretty strong ideas about religion.&nbsp; He, like his older two brothers, had the&nbsp;<em>privilege<\/em>&nbsp;of growing up with a pastor as a dad.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A pastor dad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A verbose, verbal-processing, pastor dad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So you might understand my bewilderment when my Catholic school attending, mass\/liturgy every week kind of Catholic school, 17-year-old son, starts to quote the Lord\u2019s Prayer and said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur Father, who&nbsp;<strong>aren\u2019t<\/strong>&nbsp;in heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My daughter in Love stopped him \u2013 \u201cWhat did you say?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My son repeated himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She replied, \u201cDid you say&nbsp;<em>aren\u2019t<\/em>?\u201d&nbsp; \u201cGod&nbsp;<em>aren\u2019t<\/em>&nbsp;in heaven?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My son replied \u201cYes\u201d with a look of what\u2019s your issue?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She replied \u201cI think it goes Our Father who&nbsp;<em>art<\/em>&nbsp;in heaven \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My son straightened up, his face contorted with a \u201cWhat, wait, really?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll this time I thought it was&nbsp;<em>aren\u2019t<\/em>&nbsp;in heaven.&nbsp; In all the liturgies through school, I thought they were saying&nbsp;<em>aren\u2019t<\/em>.&nbsp; That\u2019s how I thought it was said.\u201d<br><br>The two of them, doubling over with laughter were in a race to see which one could tell pastor dad that his kid had been screwing up the Lord\u2019s Prayer all these years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m sure at first my mouth hung open in disbelief, a flash of embarrassment and then we all began to laugh together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through my laughter, I asked him \u201cReally?&nbsp; You didn\u2019t think&nbsp;<em>aren\u2019t<\/em>was weird?\u201d&nbsp; To which he replied. \u201cDad, I think&nbsp;<em>art<\/em>&nbsp;is weird!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut, son\u201d, I pursued, didn\u2019t it seem strange to think that God aren\u2019t in heaven?&nbsp; Besides the bad grammar, if God aren\u2019t in heaven, then where is God?\u201d<br><br>He replied, \u201cI didn\u2019t think much of it \u2018cause you always keep saying God is with us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selah.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It was hot, and we were on a beach at Kootenay Lake of British Columbia, enjoying fun and relaxation with family.&nbsp; Somehow the conversation turned to God, and my 17-year-old has some pretty strong ideas about religion.&nbsp; He, like his older two brothers, had the&nbsp;privilege&nbsp;of growing up with a pastor as a dad.&nbsp; A pastor&#8230;","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":16748,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[8],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-16747","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16747","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=16747"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16747\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":16749,"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16747\/revisions\/16749"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/16748"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=16747"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=16747"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=16747"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
