{"id":2595,"date":"2011-04-04T14:55:45","date_gmt":"2011-04-04T21:55:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/?p=2595"},"modified":"2018-07-10T00:45:01","modified_gmt":"2018-07-10T00:45:01","slug":"personal-experience-matters-in-the-long-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/significant-sustenance\/personal-experience-matters-in-the-long-run\/","title":{"rendered":"Personal Experience Matters in the Long Run"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #333333;\"> A modern parable:<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Filbert was a dog who lived in a small prairie town.\u00a0\u00a0 He was a good and happy dog who had a good family that treated him very well.\u00a0 One day he was rolling in the grass when out of the corner of his eye he saw the biggest rabbit he had ever seen.\u00a0 It was at least twice the size of any rabbit he had seen before, and the way the sun bounced off its fur made it look almost golden.\u00a0 Well, as you can imagine, Filbert sprang into hot pursuit of the rabbit.\u00a0 The rabbit saw the dog and took off running to escape its pursuer.<\/p>\n<p>Through the fence, down the gravel driveway and out across the native prairie grass they ran.\u00a0 They climbed a hill, blazed across a bridge and sped into town.\u00a0\u00a0 As they ran through town many other dogs noticed our hero stretched out in hot pursuit of <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-2597 alignright\" style=\"margin-left: 8px; margin-right: 8px;\" title=\"two dogs playing tag in water\" src=\"http:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Fotolia_13387186_XS-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>something.\u00a0\u00a0 They noticed the glimmer in his eye and the passion of his pursuit, and they too were compelled to join the run.<\/p>\n<p>Block after block our hero chased the rabbit while more dogs joined the pack \u2013 the race was on!\u00a0 The rabbit, our hero and some twenty dogs went running out of town and down the gravel road with more and more dogs getting caught up in the hype of the chase. \u201cWhat are we chasing?\u201d they would ask each other.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019re not sure exactly.\u00a0 Some say it\u2019s a cat and others a rabbit, nonetheless it must be pretty amazing for Filbert to be running so hard!\u201d others replied.<\/p>\n<p>The sun was beginning to set on the prairie and the pursuit had not lost any of its steam for the rabbit and Filbert.\u00a0\u00a0 However, the crowd of dogs along for the run began to wane.\u00a0 Some had to return home to get dinner; others got tired and decided to stop; and a few just got distracted by the many new things they were seeing.\u00a0 As the sun faded on the horizon one could only see the silhouettes of the rabbit and its lone pursuer, our hero Filbert.<\/p>\n<p>Why did all the other dogs quit the race?\u00a0 I am sure they all had a good reason, but didn\u2019t the hero have the same reasons to stop his pursuit?\u00a0 Maybe so, but then why did he keep running when the others quit?\u00a0\u00a0 The answer is so simple and yet profound: Filbert was the only one who had actually seen the rabbit.\u00a0 He had experience with the object of his desire and not just an intellectual idea of it.\u00a0 His experience with the rabbit was first hand and personal and this fueled his pursuit!<\/p>\n<p>_______________________<\/p>\n<p>an excerpt from: &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Becoming Love: Avoiding Common Forms of Christian Insanity<\/span> by Michael Rose<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A modern parable: Filbert was a dog who lived in a small prairie town.\u00a0\u00a0 He was a good and happy dog who had a good family that treated him very well.\u00a0 One day he was rolling in the grass when out of the corner of his eye he saw the biggest rabbit he had ever&#8230;","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":2596,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33,34,32],"tags":[71,286,312,418],"class_list":["post-2595","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sole-significance","category-soul-significance","category-significant-sustenance","tag-big-picture","tag-incarnation","tag-knowing","tag-personal-experience"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
