{"id":5866,"date":"2015-02-21T11:11:45","date_gmt":"2015-02-21T11:11:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/?p=5866"},"modified":"2016-01-25T18:06:51","modified_gmt":"2016-01-25T18:06:51","slug":"inspiring-motivation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/home\/significant-sustenance\/inspiring-motivation\/","title":{"rendered":"Inspiring Motivation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Road-up-\u00a9-Sergej-Khackimullin-Fotolia.com_.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5870\" src=\"http:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Road-up-\u00a9-Sergej-Khackimullin-Fotolia.com_.jpg\" alt=\"Road-up- \u00a9 Sergej Khackimullin - Fotolia.com\" width=\"346\" height=\"346\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iamsignificantca.lightningbasecdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Road-up-\u00a9-Sergej-Khackimullin-Fotolia.com_.jpg 346w, https:\/\/iamsignificantca.lightningbasecdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Road-up-\u00a9-Sergej-Khackimullin-Fotolia.com_-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/iamsignificantca.lightningbasecdn.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Road-up-\u00a9-Sergej-Khackimullin-Fotolia.com_-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/><\/a>Many of the folks I speak with on a daily basis are struggling to find the motivation to do the things they have to, start something new and to see it through! \u00a0I confess I have seasons like this in my life and have to be deliberate about tending to my heart and mind to stay motivated. \u00a0 To be deliberate is key because when the challenges arise it is very easy to slip back into lethargy. \u00a0Once we have allowed ourselves to slip into lethargy, it takes a whole bunch more effort to get motivated again.<\/p>\n<p>Inspiring motivation is a deliberate process, a renewing of our minds as we learn to cultivate motivating thoughts and at the same time recognize and de-power negative ones. \u00a0This will take some effort. \u00a0Like ruts in gravel roads, patterns of thinking form ruts in our mind and as such, it takes effort to stay out of them! \u00a0 This comes through reflecting as objectively as possible on your thoughts and feelings thereby learning to recognize thought \/ emotional patterns and steer away from the unhealthy ones. \u00a0This will also help you to focus on the things that give life, the tasks at hand without inadvertently sabotaging yourself!<\/p>\n<p>There are three general reasons why we may lose our motivation:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"margin-left: 120px;\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Unsure what we really want to achieve. Lack of clear vision.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Unclear about how to proceed and a general lack of understanding of strengths and weakness.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A general lack of self-confidence.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\">What\u2019s your Vision?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Bible tells us that the people perish for lack of vision and being unsure what it is specifically we want to do, to achieve will have a significant impact on motivation. \u00a0 Have a clearly defined goal and objective is key to inspiring motivation. A clear sense of what you want to achieve is\u00a0in itself is a tremendous motivator and the first step to establishing a concrete action plan. \u00a0Take your time to understand the desired outcome\u00a0or goal and understand the purpose and meaning supporting it. \u00a0What are the potential benefits and potential risks? In short, understand what is you are trying to accomplish in as specific ways as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Watch for subtle emotions and thought patterns that seem to creep in that will discourage you. \u00a0These thoughts can masquerade as wisdom. \u00a0 \u00a0Wisdom is rooted in love, in truth and is positive, where the discouraging thoughts are rooted in fear &#8211; fear of failing, fear of being judged and fear of being rejected.<\/p>\n<p>Learning to recognize the differences between true wisdom and fear is a key for inspiring motivation! \u00a0Your\u00a0fears do need to be addressed for what they are. \u00a0Understand what issue is that is driving the fear. \u00a0 By doing so, we can often see these fears in the light of wisdom and they will be dispelled. \u00a0 It is abandoning ambiguous fears and replacing them with genuine, informed healthy focus which brings a genuine, inspiring motivation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clearly define your goals or what you desire to achieve.<\/li>\n<li>Be honest and reflect on your feelings &#8211; be aware of the emotion of fear.<\/li>\n<li>Choose what you are going to do with those fears &#8211; face them and overcome them. \u00a0Focus on the goal and allow is to energize the overcoming of obstacles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\">Assess the tools and steps to achieve your goal.\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">With a clear vision, this positions you to best to begin to formulate the steps necessary to work towards the completion of these tasks \/ goals. \u00a0 This will give you the opportunity to identify the best path to your goal, evaluate the kinds of tools \/ skills you possess and what you will need to develop or acquire elsewhere. Also, to identify potential challenges and road blocks and plan how these will be dealt with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some tasks can seem so overwhelming but as my Grandma used to tell me &#8211; <em>it\u2019s just like eating an elephant &#8211; one bite at a time<\/em>! \u00a0 With a plan inspired by a clear vision, we can see the task being achieved in a series of deliberate smaller steps instead of one monumental leap! \u00a0 In this light, the task seems that much more <em>do-able,<\/em> and this inspires motivation.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify specific steps to achieve goal \/ task.<\/li>\n<li>Identify road blocks and challenges.<\/li>\n<li>Do a skills inventory.\u00a0 What skills do you possess\u00a0to achieve the task?<\/li>\n<li>Identify the skills \/ tools that you need that you do not currently possess and decide how the need for these tools will be aquired.<\/li>\n<li>Implement the plan. One step at a time understanding it is a process to achieve your goal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\">Confidence<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This can be a difficult one to overcome because it can be deeply rooted in our <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a title=\"Importance of Worldview\" href=\"http:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/significant-sustenance\/importance-of-worldview\/\"><span style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\">worldview<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span>.\u00a0 This is where renewing our mind becomes so important, along with tenacious courage. \u00a0 For many, failing can be a very traumatic experience, and for many, once bitten, twice shy!\u00a0 For some they have had experience with conflict around a task or via petty politics.\u00a0 For many of us, we fall into trap of comparing ourselves to others and will often feel inadequate, like the object of our comparison may have more\u00a0 skills, charisma than we do.\u00a0 The comparison game is always treacherous because we tend to overestimate the skills and abilities of others and underestimate our own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To address the area of confidence, we need to address our fear of failure and it\u2019s ugly step-sisters fear of being judged and fear of rejection. \u00a0 It is often a very powerful first step to recognize and accept our fears.\u00a0 We cannot deal with an issue we deny having!\u00a0 In being honest about our fear of failure, we can then begin to explore cognitive ways of addressing it as well as dealing with the emotion of it.\u00a0 By owning these fears and thinking them through, we discover that often these fears are not founded in anything concrete at all.\u00a0 When fears are brought into the open, into the light so to speak, the dark cloud dissipates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Make sure you have people around you who will genuinely encourage you.\u00a0 Not the proverbial \u201cYes Man\u201d but folks with whom you have a relationship and trust to give you honest feedback and cheer you on towards your goals. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a title=\"Christian Life Coaching\" href=\"http:\/\/iamsignificant.ca\/christian-life-coaching\/\"><span style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\">Connecting with a coach<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span> can also be a great idea.\u00a0 A good coach can help you through this process with insight and a variety of tools and get you moving!<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Face your fear.
