The Neighbor’s – Short Story

Posted on October 10, 2012October 23, 2014 by Michael Rose

God will often offend the mind to reveal the heart, and the following is a short story I wrote as an adaptation of the familiar parable of the Good Samaritan. Set in the modern day, I have attempted to re-tell this powerful story in such a way that we can identify with each of the individuals in the story while staying true to the scandalous message as Jesus intended. I have deliberately written this to illustrate the humanity of all involved and, in the end, to challenge us in the area of love, justice and our prejudice.

This is a story of mercy, compassion and justice. Moreover, it blows the box off our thinking that we determine who is in and who is out. A reminder that God has no problem coloring outside of the lines of our religiosity to bring us to the centrality and sufficiency of His love to make strangers into a family.
